How to start 2026 strong

The new year has already started. That means you have an ideal opportunity to start building good habits in your life and stick to them throughout the year.

In this article you will read about five good habits that can improve your life in different aspects. Your future you will thank you for that. Read on to find out what these habits are and why they will help better your life.

  1. Walking

People nowadays often underestimate the benefits of walking. Walking helps regulate your nervous system. Go for a walk with no distractions. Just you and your mind. Don’t listen to music, podcasts, or anything else. Walk in silence. Give your mind some space and peace to process occurrences and to sort out different thoughts into mental compartments. Just a walk for 15 minutes is already enough. And don’t walk too fast because then your brain focuses on your speed rather than clearing your mind.

  1. Delete Social media

Delete any app that distracts you. For most people, that’s Tiktok.  If it’s not social media, but a game then delete the game. Mainly people who watch a large amount of short videos on a daily basis often have trouble with concentration. You get exposed to new information approximately every 15 seconds. You don’t realize how bad that is for your brain. Your brain needs to switch so fast between different thoughts and information. You receive fast, constant stimuli, to the point where the brain becomes overwhelmed. Many people don’t notice that social media is a big factor in why people nowadays struggle with mental issues such as depression or sleep problems.

Because of that constant focus on new things every 15 seconds your brain enters fight-or-flight modus. Your nervous system can’t rest. Maybe your mom is right, everything is because of that phone.

If you notice that you can’t stay focused on a task, like homework, for even one hour, there is a 99% chance that it’s because of TikTok, Instagram or anything else on your phone. Delete those apps for one month and see how much your concentration span and happiness level will improve.

  1. Stop procrastinating

If you need to do a task, do it right away and finish it (as long as it’s not harmful for your health). For example if your room is messy, clean it immediately and finish it. Don’t say “I’ll do the rest later,” because most of the time the “later” never comes.

  1. Read 10 pages a day

Reading 10 pages a day is good for your concentration and knowledge. With just reading 10 pages a day you will get much more knowledge compared to not reading at all. And the more often you do this, the more likely you are to want to read more than just 10 pages. You gain discipline and real dopamine (a healthy form of dopamine) from it.

It doesn’t always have to be informative books. Reading novels will also give you a form of knowledge. You are exposed to different ways of thinking and/or perspectives. Instead of judging someone for some actions that seem strange to you, you learn to tolerate them because you will try to understand their way of thinking. You will develop a high level of emotional intelligence. Reading novels can also teach you lessons from characters’ mistakes, which may spare you a bunch of drama and problems in your own life in the future.

  1. Stop multitasking

Some people think multitasking is good because you train your brain to focus on multiple things at the same time. This is actually really bad because your brain can’t focus on multiple things simultaneously. It just switches rapidly between tasks. In the long term your brain will have problems with focusing. If you multitask you also can’t have deep focus. Because half of the energy that was meant for the task will go into the process of switching between tasks.

For example, don’t watch something on your phone while eating dinner or lunch on a daily basis. Your brain will just get overstimulated. Just eat your food in peace and concentrate on digesting. You can watch a video or something else on your phone later. And most of the time, what you watch while eating is just brain rot.

So stop multitasking and tackle tasks one by one.
